When Best Intentions Get Touchy

The 6th chapter of 2nd Samuel records the account of Uzzah being struck dead for touching the ark of the covenant, even though he appears to have the best of intentions in doing so. This is a powerful example of God expecting mankind to follow His instructions & following through on the consequences for disobedience. Sins committed in ignorance or with the best intentions may still be punishable by God, and failure to follow God’s pattern (whether through ignorance, oversight, or stubbornness) shows irreverence to our divine Creator. The same overall principles still apply today when we fail to stick to God’s instructions, especially pertaining to worship and the work of the church.
